There has been a
breakthrough in the research on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
A gene has been identified and a
genetic test has been developed for the cMyBP-C (cardiac myosin binding
protein C) mutation causing HCM in Maine Coons. Information about HCM and
instructions to order the test kit can be found at Veterinary
Cardiac Genetics Lab.
MCBFA wants to help support this important ongoing research. A proposal was approved at the recent meeting to make a
donation of $5000 to aid in the research. This proposal will go out for
a membership vote soon. We hope everyone who is a breeder member will vote
to make this important donation.
In addition to this, we
are also having a fund raising effort for donations from
individuals. A special account has been designated for donations for
the HCM fund. You can send a check to our treasurer or send a
paypal donation specifying "For HCM Fund". We hope
together to raise at least another $5000 to go with the group
donation.
There is also the
possible availability of matching funds which could bring the total
donation to double whatever we are able to raise. Donations
are being gratefully accepted from ALL Maine Coon lovers throughout the world!

Screening can be found through this link.
